NORWAY PIKE EXPEDITION 2012
Possibly The Best Pike Fishing Trip You'll Ever Experience! |
|
 |
Like most keen Pike anglers we had heard and read about the fantastic Pike fishing opportunities that were to be found in certain Scandinavian countries, unfortunately for us it took us until the mid 1990's to actually organise a trip out there, but boy, were we glad we did!
Norway was our destination the land of the midnight sun and in particular the fiord called Tyrifjordenn, Norways fifth largest freshwater fiord with an area of just over 33,000 acres and a maximum depth of nearly 300 meters. Not only did we find masses of fish but also some great lunkers as well, the Norwegian people were very helpful, although, even now, they still think it's strange that we go all that way and then return the fish back to the water to fight again. The fish themselves are truly wild and the majority of them have never been caught before! We have now run many of these fantastic Pike fishing expeditions and each time we have been rewarded with absolutely stunning fishing. So good in fact that everybody who has fished on these trips has said it's the best fishing they have ever had - brilliant testament to outstanding fishing, with most anglers re-booking these trips before they return home, so places are always limited and early booking is essential. |

When you tell people your going fishing to Norway they immediately think that the weathers going to be cold and there will be loads of snow everywhere and some even think were going ice fishing, well that's all a bit unpleasant, it's true that this is Norway but only in winter time and not in the Spring when we visit. Over the years we've been very fortunate with the weather and have had temperatures up into the high eighties', believe us, sitting out at midnight watching the sun set and still needing a T-shirt on to stop yourself burning is fantastic and so different to UK Pike fishing. |
| We've also managed to have a few days over the years of heavy rain but good weather is the norm and you can usually return back home with a suntan. Norway is famous for it's stunning scenery and our venue is no exception, high mountains to the eastern side of the fjord and in both the south and north directions you can usually see snow capped mountains in the distance, blue sky's, crystal clear water it's almost heaven! If in addition to fishing one of your hobbies is photography then this trip has the potential to give you some absolutely stunning landscape, scenery plus sunrise & sunset photo opportunities. Check out our Norwegian Pike gallery plus this years Norway 2011 trip gallery for some stunning photographs as well. |

TRAVEL DETAILS
Our trips run from Saturday to Saturday and we usually fly from Heathrow airport into Oslo airport, morning flight out and afternoon one back gives the best deals, internal transfers are either by shuttle coach or taxi/minibus, flight time is under two hours and travelling time to the fiord to and from the airport by taxi is about 40 minutes, shuttle coach as per the timetable. You will need to pack your rods in hard rod cases to protect them, we sometimes have these for hire if you haven't your own. |
ACCOMODATION
We stop in private self catering cabins on the banks of the fiord, sleeping arrangements are usually 4 customers in the main cabin and guides in the smaller cabin, there is full cooking facilities, toilets and showers in the main cabin. The main cabin has two bedrooms, one with bunk beds, the other two single beds, plus lounge, kitchen/breakfast room, toilet & shower. There is also a large area outside with chairs etc and usually a barbecue is available for our use as well. We do expect the cabin to be kept clean and tidy obviously plus a good cleanup at the end of the trip for which we all participate in. Food can be purchased from the nearby supermarkets and you should allow yourself around £80.00 per person per week for this, there are also some superb takeaways close by as well. The garden runs down to the fiord and is a lovely place to relax if the weathers good, you can of course fish off the garden if you like. At the bottom of the garden is the pontoon from which the boats are moored, across the fiord is a stunning view called "Kings View" if your feeling energetic it's a great, but steep, climb with awesome views across the fiord. The cabins are very kindly rented out to us by our Norwegian friends and are private so we expect them to be treated with care etc as I'm sure you would if they were your own!! |

FISHING
The fishing in Norway is usually superb with most fish having never seen a hook before, bait and lures without doubt throw up some superb hauls of fish along with many specimen sized fish, fly's are also worth a go and for the angler willing to persevere with this method the rewards can be very good. We understand that other holiday companies have now been looking at organizing trips to Norway, however they apparently have had a hard time catching quality fish out there! We don't, we've fished Norway for over 18 years now and have consistently produced excellent results with over 600 fish being returned some weeks including several into the magical thirty pound mark. Please don't however think that the Pike simply give themselves up out there, you will have to work at it especially for the monsters! The weather plays a big part in Norway, as it does with most large venues, good weather equates to longer fishing times and more fish - it's that simple! |
You will need your own tackle and baits on this trip, we suggest the following will be more than ample for the trip, 2 bait rods, 2 lure rods, reels loaded with 30lb min braid or 15lb mono, end tackle inc large floats, small selection of dead baits, selection of lures. You will not need masses of lures, when we first started these trips we would take over literally hundreds of lures, we now however only take 2 small sandwich boxes of them and we still catch loads of fish. We suggest that a small selection of surface baits, jerk/glide baits, crankbaits, spinners and soft baits is all that's required and we find that naturals, firetiger, perch and orange are some of the best fish catching colour's. |
RESERVATIONS
Unfortunately as we operate these trips in the same way we do in the UK we only are able to take a maximum of four persons per week on this trip, although we do usually run two or three of these trips back to back. This trip gives you the opportunity to fish for up to six full - 8 hour days on one of Norway's largest freshwater fjords. Included in this fantastic trip is your accommodation, our English guides, boats, and as much fishing as you can handle, please note that flights, internal transfers and food are not included in this package but there are numerous airlines offering low cost flights to Norway, as mentioned earlier we usually fly from Heathrow and have found the last few years that SAS have offered the best all round package, please ask for advice before booking and flights. Trip availability is strictly on a first come first served basis and these trips nearly always get booked up very early, if your interested in this fantastic fishing experience and would like to know more then please give me a call on 07995 232845, daytime or 01493 740565 any evening and I'll be pleased to tell you more about this great trip, current availability and prices.
